COMPAQ MX11800 KEYBOARD DRIVER

The Compaq uses a built-in trackball to save on space that would be eaten up by a mouse and pad, an important consideration in a server environment. On the newer variants with Windows keys, all keys on the bottom row except the space bar are only one unit wide. Well it is a Logitech optical trackball cool did not know that. At least two colour variants are known: Some consider them to be some of the best laser etched keycaps around; that may be so, but I prefer the higher contrast of dyesubbed keys. It was made by Cherry Corp. I use this keyboard with my servers in the loft, and the built-in trackball is a million times better than the mouse I was struggling with before.

First off, this keyboard lacks Windows keys. The function keys have been arranged into two rows of six, and the comlaq block has been compressed into two rows of four.

It is assumed this change was done so the keyboard compas be better fitted into commonly available rack-mount drawers. Since the has PCB-mounted switches, a swap would be easy.

The variant with homing-bars on the F and J keys uses the newer thin keycaps, while the variant with the home-dots uses the older md11800 keycaps. Top removed and as you can see the switches are mounted directly to the PCB unlike the Filco that is plate mounted.
